Signing for purchases or choosing “Credit” instead of “Debit” is the only way to accrue points for your choice of rewards.
Some retailers, including Wal–Mart®, require 4 steps for you to use your debit card as credit:
- Swipe your card.
- Select “Cancel” to proceed to the “Credit” option.
- Select “Credit.”
- Sign for your purchase.
Here are a few scenarios when you can use your debit card as credit. Your checking account will be debited, and you’ll get your rewards!
- When using your card at the gas pump, select “Credit.”
- When you are in the fast food drive–thru, the cashier will swipe your card, automatically using your card as “Credit.”
- At the grocery store, always select or say “Credit.”
