Five Reasons You Should Meet with a Financial Advisor

How many of your financial needs can be met by traditional savings vehicles? Do you have questions like, "What kind of investment alternatives are there?" or "What are my choices for my IRA?" Here are five reasons why you should meet with a Space Coast Credit Union Financial Advisor, registered through our broker-dealer, CUSO Financial Services, L.P.:

1. Americans are living longer these days. With advances in medicine, health care and physical awareness, more people are living past the century mark. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, at age 65, your life expectancy is about 20 years. However, at age 85 your life expectancy is 7 more years. At age 90 your life expectancy is 5 years. But if you live to age 95, your life expectancy is still 4 more years. When you retire, you should have enough assets saved to make sure your entire retirement is a comfortable one.

2. With people living longer, you should realize that items needed for everyday living are getting more expensive every year. Since 1981, the average cost of living increase is over 3% per year. It means that a loaf of plain white bread that cost 52 cents in 1981 now costs more than $1. A first class postage stamp that cost only 20 cents in 1981 now costs 37 cents. These increases may seem modest, but in each case the cost nearly doubled. These price increases are typical occurrences over an average 20-year retirement.

3. A "life event" means you may need financial planning. Examples include purchasing a home, paying for a wedding or college education, your retirement, and passing assets to the next generation. You may not be aware of all of the options you have available at the credit union through our broker-dealer CUSO Financial Services, L.P. (Member FINRA/SIPC) .

A carefully laid out financial plan may incorporate a combination of CDs, money markets, bonds, stocks, annuities and mutual funds-all of which are available at SCCU.

4. If all of the investment challenges you face aren't confusing enough, you're also faced with low interest rates, tax law changes*, inflation, taxation of social security benefits* and decreased confidence in traditional retirement plans. Don't miss out on the opportunity to meet with someone right here at your credit union who can help you sort it all out.

5. Discover the value of finding a professional to help you. Your branch's Financial Advisor will help you match your investments to your short-, medium- and long-term goals. When conducting portfolio reviews, Financial Advisors often find a lack of proper planning for intermediate and long-term goals. Let a Space Coast Credit Union Financial Advisor help you design an appropriate portfolio to meet your needs.
