As I write this column, we continue to be bombarded with news of the economy. There is very little, if any, good news and the turmoil in the banking industry is especially troubling as we see institutions fail, merge or withdraw from doing business. I feel that consumers deserve to be treated better than they have been during these trying times.
Despite what you hear about the credit crunch and institutions not lending money, we are continuing to lend at SCCU. We are continuing to lend because we have managed this credit union for our members in a conservative manner, ensuring that we have the net worth to weather downturns such as the current economic storm.
