Identity Verification Frequently Asked Questions

What is Identity Verification?
Online security is a joint effort between SCCU and its members. Identity Verification is a new feature within Online Banking that allows members to prevent unauthorized access to their accounts. Identity Verification uses security questions to verify your identity. You set the answers to something that only you know. Access to your accounts is protected by security questions when you:

  • Log in from a different computer
  • Log in using a different browser
  • Log in from a different location
  • Log in at a time outside of the times you normally use Online Banking

When will I be asked to enroll in Identity Verification?
Starting in February, we will be asking every Online Banking member to enroll. Groups of members will be selected to enroll during different time periods so that we may provide the best support. For existing Online Banking users, you will be randomly selected to enroll at some point during the months of February through March 2008. If you are setting up Online Banking for the first time, you will enroll as part the initial setup steps.

Why do I need to set up Identity Verification security questions?
This feature makes it difficult for someone to gain unauthorized access to your accounts, even if they have stolen your Username and Password. For Identity Verification to work effectively, you must first setup security questions with answers that only you know. Then the system can verify you are who you say you are by matching your answers to those you previously gave. Identity Verification is becoming a standard within the financial industry.

How do I set up my Identity Verification security questions?
New Online Banking users will set up their security questions at the time they enroll in Online Banking.

Existing Online Banking users will be prompted to set up security questions at the time of login.

  1. Select 5 different security questions from the dropdown lists and enter an answer that you will remember for each selected question in the corresponding textbox.
    • Your selected questions can not be the same. Answers are not case sensitive.
    • Use only the letters a-z, A-Z, and the numbers 0-9. Do not use special characters, such as %`;”<>{}\
    • Do not share your questions or answers with anyone. Note that we will not be able to provide you with these answers.
  2. Click Continue to save your selected questions and answers.
The next time you log in, you may be presented with one of the security questions you selected. Enter the correct answer to the question, click continue, and you will be granted access to your account.

Yes. We are requiring all Online Banking users to use this additional protection feature to prevent unauthorized account access.

Do I have to change my Online Banking Username or Password?
