Phone Call Caller ID “Spoofing” Scam
It has been brought to our attention that some members have received phone calls from scam artists using phony caller ID numbers who are pretending to be with the credit union in an attempt to solicit personal information and passwords.
By using phony caller IDs, these "spoofers" make it look like members are receiving a legitimate call from the credit union, even though the call did not originate from the credit union.
Please remember that Space Coast Credit Union, the NCUA, CUNA, CUNA Mutual, or any other organization pertaining to credit unions will never contact you via telephone, email, or text message to ask for personal account information such as complete social security numbers, account numbers, credit or debit card numbers, dates of birth, etc.
Please ask for a call back number if you feel you are being spoofed. A legitimate credit union employee will provide you with a call back number where a member of our Member Services team can assist you with your account. If you do not get a working number, please report the incident to reportfraud@sccu.com.
How to protect yourself from Caller ID fraud:
- Do not assume that the Caller ID information displayed on your phone is accurate. It can easily be spoofed.
- Never give out personal or financial information over the telephone unless you know EXACTLY who has initiated the call.
- If you have doubts about who is on the phone, call the credit union back using any of our contact phone numbers.
- If you become a victim of fraud, call the credit union right away.
