PHISHING SCAM: Emails Claiming to be from EFTPS
Please be aware of a new phishing attempt that is currently circulating. The "from" field in these emails is made to appear as if it was sent by "EFTPS TAX PAYMENT," and the email tells users that their tax payment submitted through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) has failed. The message claims the payment failed with an R21 return reason code, and provides a link to obtain additional information. Clicking on this link will install malware on your computer commonly used by fraudsters to steal online banking credentials, credit card details, and other sensitive information.
If you receive this email, DO NOT RESPOND or click on any of the links in the email. This email is fraudulent and is soliciting recipients for personal information including name, phone, e-mail, banking credentials, and credit card information.
