Recent Epsilon Email Breach and Phishing Attempts

News organizations have recently reported that Epsilon, a company used by many businesses to manage customer marketing information such as email addresses, has stated that an unauthorized third party gained access to a number of Epsilon's accounts. Since Epsilon provides services to over 2,500 sizable businesses (such as Walgreens, Capital One, JP Morgan Chase, Target, and more) this is an extensive breach.

Space Coast Credit Union does NOT do business with Epsilon, however, due to the extent of the breach and the possibility that the information could be used to construct messages that will ask you for account information, we want you to be aware of this issue.

According to published information, the breach is limited to email addresses and/or customer names only. However, this information could be used to create messages that ask for information about “your account” or “your ATM card,” or other statements indicating that SCCU or another business needs you to provide information about your account. Do not respond to any such requests, now or at any time.

We recommend that you continue to be on the alert for spam emails or phone calls requesting personal or sensitive information. Keep in mind that SCCU does not send emails or text messages, or make calls requesting members verify personal information. It is also a good idea not to open any email attachments you might receive unless you personally know who is sending you the email and what the attachment is. We also recommend that you set up our free account alerts, which allow you to monitor your accounts at the credit union.
