A Message from
Timothy M. Antonition,
Executive Vice President,
Retail Operations
Over the past few months, we have shared information with members about various ways we can operate the credit union more efficiently for you, and how your use of products and services from the credit union generates a return to you, our member-owners.
This month, I would like to talk about how the loans members have with the credit union contribute to the cooperative and help generate more benefits for members.
We all know we pay interest on loans, and the lender earns that interest. So who gets the benefit of that interest?
Well, if your home or auto loan is financed at another institution, the interest you pay on those loans generates income for that institution. So right now, who is getting the benefit of the interest income for your vehicle loan? Is it a bank or other for-profit lender, where the income is used to generate a profit for stockholders or investors, or is it the credit union you own along with your fellow members, where the income is used to produce a benefit for you?
The income the credit union earns from loans is used to consistently provide all members with higher deposit rates, lower loan rates, and more free and low-cost services than they would typically receive from a bank.
