A Message from Douglas R. Samuels, President/CEO I am pleased to announce an important and historic development in Space Coast Credit Union’s 58-year history. Space Coast Credit Union has merged with Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union. The merger was approved by the Board of Directors of Space Coast Credit Union during a special meeting held on Friday, June 19. The necessary supporting actions have been completed with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the State of Florida Office of Financial Regulation. The effective date of the merger is the start of business on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. The resulting consolidated credit union is the 3rd largest credit union in Florida, with over $3 billion in assets, 63 branches, and over 145 ATM locations. This is a significant moment for both credit unions, and I welcome you to this new chapter in our history. First, let me address what are probably your primary concerns: Space Coast Credit Union is the surviving entity. Eastern Financial was merged into SCCU. The name of the credit union remains Space Coast Credit Union. Eastern Financial will now operate as “Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union, a division of Space Coast Credit Union.” SCCU continues to operate as usual. You should continue to contact SCCU using the web addresses and phone numbers you are currently using. Your deposits are safe. Member deposits are fully insured to at least $250,000. At this time, the branches and ATMs located in the EFFCU division are not yet able to service SCCU accounts. Please continue to use the branches and ATMs located in the SCCU service area.
