Downloading songs is the latest craze for the music industry.  It seems fun to have a music player and fill it up with your favorite songs, but you must download songs legally; if you don't, you could face hefty fines.

Downloading music first became popular with file-sharing: peer-to-peer networks that allow internet users to make files available to other internet users to download.  File sharing is legal, but a few years ago, users were utilizing this technology to download copyrighted materials without permission.

Before paying for any services, some sites provide you the opportunity to first listen to the music that interests you.  However, you will be unable to download the music until you sign up for the site’s services; either pay per song or pay a monthly charge.

No one site has every song from every artist, so take some time to do the research before paying for anything.  Also, read this article before you download any (more) songs.

A “Downloading Music” Checklist
